Pick and rolls are the most effective way to create openings on offence in lacrosse, especially in box lacrosse.
Execution of a proper pick and roll lies with the ball handler. The player with the ball must draw the opponent towards them. This is the most important step.
The ball handler looks to engage 1on1 which draws his opponent out to him.
The ball handler must now set up the pick.
If his teammate is to the right, the ball handler should start to pull their defender to the left.
Once the pick starts to form; the ball handler will then change direction, running their defender into the pick.
Pulling the defender AWAY and then TOWARDS will create a blindside for the defender and will set up the pick.
